Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 7, his final completed symphony, is a deeply lyrical and introspective piece composed in 1952. Often interpreted as a farewell to life and creativity, the work is rich in melodic beauty and emotional nuance, balancing nostalgia with quiet defiance. In contrast, Myaskovsky’s Sinfonietta, written in 1945, radiates neoclassical charm and clarity, showcasing his gift for elegant orchestration and structural finesse. 

 

 

"Echoes", a new album featuring Norwegian trumpet soloist Tine Thing Helseth, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and conductor Petr Popelka. The recording presents trumpet concertos by Alexander Arutiunian, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Mieczysław Weinberg, along with Arutiunian’s Theme and Variations. 

 

 

Fjordklang features 19 selected works from the “Vestfold Cycle” — a growing series of 43 compositions written by composers with ties to the region. The cycle began with five pieces premiered at their very first concert and has since grown into a unique expression of Vestfold’s creative energy. The album also features music by two key figures in the local music scene: Olav Berg (Horten) and Roger Arve Vigulf (Sandefjord), both of whom have written original sextets for the ensemble.

Oslo Kammerakademi returns with a compelling new recording, Symphonies for Harmoniemusik – Mozart · Haydn · Beethoven, offering a fresh perspective on three iconic symphonic works through the lens of historical wind ensemble arrangements. This album explores the rich tradition of Harmoniemusik, where orchestral masterpieces were transcribed for wind octet, contrabass, and timpani, making them accessible to smaller ensembles and intimate settings.

Performed by Norwegian guitarist Ole Martin Huser-Olsen, this album brings together three contemporary Nordic composers whose works explore sacred themes through striking musical language and intimate textures. 

Britten’s seminal Suites for Solo Cello are a 20th century analogue to J.S. Bach’s landmark Suites for Solo Cello. All three of these pieces were written for, and dedicated to, the Russian titan of the cello, Mstislav Rostropovich. Coincidentally, Amalie Stalheim has recently been loaned a G.B. Guadagnini cello that was once owned by Mstislav Rostropovich. While she plays an F. Ruggieri cello from 1687 on this recording, Amalie makes her performance debut on the historic Guadagnini 1783 instrument in November 2025. 

 

 

Karsten Brustad’s latest release, Ylg, hof, Udjat!, is a striking collection of three concertos for soloists and orchestra that fuse mythic imagination with contemporary sonic exploration.
