Aimer et mourir - Kožená, Magdalena / Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin / Ticciati, Robin

Duparc’s mélodies, which Ravel himself described as ‘works of genius’, sound particularly opulent in their
orchestral scoring; the warm tones of Kožená’s ravishing voice provide a perfect match.

Néère: Hahn, Duparc and Chausson - Gens, Véronique (soprano) / Manoff, Susan (piano)

Alpha is very proud to welcome this grande dame of lyric art. A great Mozartian, Gens also excels in
Gluck, Berlioz and Offenbach and has sung with the greatest, from Claudio Abbado to Marc
Minkowski and Frans Brüggens.

Dukas: Ariane et Barbe-Bleue - Schmiege, Marilyn / Kennedy, Roderick / Taillon, Jocelyn / Shirai, Mitsuko / Buchan, Cynthia / Laurent, Francine / Baudoin, Monique / Otten, Josef / Pavelec, Jörg / Gerihsen, Franz / WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln / Cologne Radio Chorus / Bertini, Gary

Based on the story of Bluebeard, Dukas set a text by the Belgian writer Maurice Maeterlinck and
took seven years to complete the work. It was well received by fellow composers and musicians.
Vincent d’Indy thought it “the most important piece of music drama since Wagner”. This great
recording from 1986 is now available for the first time on CD.
