MOUNTAIN DANCE

Renowned Norwegian pianist Rune Alver is set to captivate classical music lovers once again with the highly anticipated reissue of his celebrated album “Mountain Dance”, originally released in 2004. This evocative recording, which showcases visionary piano works by the young Edvard Grieg, will be reintroduced with remastered audio that deepens the listener’s connection to Norway’s rich musical heritage.

“Mountain Dance” is more than an album—it’s a journey through Grieg’s early genius, interpreted with Alver’s signature warmth, clarity, and poetic phrasing. The reissue features standout pieces such as Fjellslått (Mountain Dance), The Bridal Procession Passes, and Improvisations on Two Norwegian Folk Songs, each rendered with Alver’s deep sensitivity to Norwegian folk traditions and romantic nuance.

Alver, a Bergen native and internationally acclaimed performer, has long been celebrated for his interpretations of Grieg’s works, including performances at the Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen and a solo recital at Carnegie Hall. His artistry bridges the past and present, breathing new life into compositions that continue to resonate across generations.

Rune Alver (b. 1957) made his debut as pianist at the age of twenty. He was born in Bergen and educated at the Bergen Conservatory of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Alver is active as soloist and chamber musician and maintains a rigorous concert schedule, having performed in Germany, France, Russia, China, South Africa and the USA. He has participated in television and radio productions of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) and the French radio station France Musique, just to mention a few.

Études poétiques: Works by Signe Lund - Alver, Rune (piano)

On his new CD, Études poétiques, pianist Rune Alver presents the listener with piano pieces of Signe Lund (1868 – 1950). Lund is one of the most distinguished female composers in Norwegian musical history, but the release is controversial nonetheless.

Catharinus Elling Works for Piano: Et Kjærlighetsdikt - Alver, Rune (piano)

Spill Og Dans - Johannes M. Rivertz - Alver, Rune (piano)

Thanks to pianist Rune Alver’s interest and efforts, however, Rivertz’s original piano compositions are once again beginning to receive attention.

Impromptu - Works By The Young Signe Lund - Alver, Rune (piano)

“Impromptu – Works By The Young Signe Lund” is the second in a series of three releases featuring the composer’s total output for piano. This music has now been made accessible for the very first time in sonorous form. CD no. 2 documents the young female composer’s early musical development at the end of the nineteenth century toward her more mature form in the work “Cinque morceaux lyriques”, op. 34, of 1905.

Blaue Blume - Alver, Rune (piano)

Johansen, David Monrad: Fedrenes fjell - Alver, Rune (piano)

På Rune Alvers nye utgivelse – ”Fedrenes fjell” – får vi for første gang høre den norske komponisten David Monrad Johansens komplette verker for klaver samlet på én CD. Rune Alver’s new release — “Fedrenes fjell” — features the Norwegian composer David Monrad Johansen’s complete works for piano collected for the first time on one CD.
