The development from "Leonore" (1805) to "Fidelio" (1814) goes through three versions of the opera, the last of which became increasingly popular in the 19th century. René Jacobs has decided to go in the opposite direction and, after revising the libretto and dialogues, to present the oldest version as a rediscovery: This still unrecognized "Leonore" is a true masterpiece. Their incomparable musical and dramaturgical structure places the highest demands on singers and orchestra. But this recording will do them more than justice, and it will make history!
