Paul Verlaine (1844-1896) is considered the most widely read French poet ever. His extremely fine feeling for sensuality, melody and pictoriality, as well as for the sound of language, is omnipresent in his poems. Although this makes it very difficult to translate, he is virtually predestined for song compositions. In addition to classics of French mélodies such as Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy, soprano Karola Pavone and her accompanist Boris Radulović dedicate their recording for COVIELLO to some otherwise underrepresented song composers such as Gabriel Dupont and Reynaldo Hahn, whose settingsof the verses Verlaine, by the way, greatly appreciated.
