On his latest release Steffen Schleiermacher presents a fantastic kaleidoscope featuring piano music of the 1950s. He set out on his quest with John Cage's Notations as his guide.
Cage's book brings together compositional excerpts and statements by more than two hundred colleagues, and Schleiermacher's finds, some of them previously unknown musical gems, could not have been more diverse. They include Luigi Dallapiccola's sole piano composition and Chou Wen-Chung's Far Eastern, foreign-sounding "The Willows Are New."
