The chamber music of Nicolas Clérambault (1676-1749) is characterized by expressivity, thematic inventiveness and a discreetly skilful way of composition. As in the previous production of the ensemble The Bach Players with compositions by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (COV 91815), this CD contains little known works from the famous library of the composer and music writer Sébastien de Brossard (1655-1730), which were recorded here for the first time on historical instruments. With their lucid, performance-practically sound interpretation, the musicians manage to give the music an appealing freshness.
