Bruch Complete Edition with Antje Weithaas

This month we are pleased to announce the release of the final volume in
our complete edition of Max Bruch’s works for violin and orchestra with the
superb violinist Antje Weithaas. Bruch’s friendships first with Joseph
Joachim and then later with Pablo de Sarasate were a great source of
inspiration. The result: his three concertos (actually four, if we count
the four-movement Serenade), the Fantasy, a Konzertstück, and various other
pieces not only constitute what is by far the largest work group within his
symphonic oeuvre but also without exception occupy the absolute heights in
the concert literature of the nineteenth century. Our Vol. 3 features the
rarely performed and wrongly neglected Violin Concerto No. 3 in D minor op.
58. This concerto and the Adagio appassionato op. 57 (available on Vol. 1)
are closely interrelated. The main theme of the eloquent and dramatic scene
concluding by dreamily soaring up to the solo violin’s highest heights is
practically identical to the second theme from the first movement of the
third violin concerto and in both instances is endowed with genuine hit
potential. An absolute listening must!
