Many and different things have been written about the Music of Sergej Rachmaninoff. He has been described as the last Russian romantic composer. He was held to be a cosmopolitan artist – and yet he bore his home-sickness in his heart. His 2nd Symphony in E minor, op. 27 is certainly an expression of this longing. It is Russian to the core, full of gloom, power and melancholy and presented with passion, discipline and dedication by the Dortmunder Philharmoniker (Dortmund Philharmonic) conducted by Gabriel Feltz.
