With the 'Gustav Mahler Fest Kassel', founded in 1989 by the then GMD Ádám Fischer, the city received another internationally important cultural attraction in addition to the world art exhibition 'documenta'. The 1989 concert recording impressively documents the spirit of optimism of the participants, but also Fischer's achievement as an outstanding Mahler exegete of international standing.
