Chamber music with organ is a rarity among the musical repertoire. Not many composers have attempted to compose for the charming and challenging combination for solo strings and organ.
One such composer was Rheinberger, Josef Gabriel, who knew the sounds and colours of the organ like none of his contemporaries. The Suite Op. 149 (a “piano trio” with organ, instead of piano), the Three Pieces Op. 150 for cello and organ and the Suite Op. 166 for violin and organ are romantic pieces played with character and total commitment.
