This opera is based on the character Plump Jack, featured in Shakespeare’s Henry IV and Henry V.
In the third scene Getty uses some of the music and words from Henry V’s coronation.
Getty’s aim is to “touch the heart” with the same directness as a film score.
“Getty`s opera is stuffed with period-evoking quotations, and even this shortened `concert-version`, squeezed on to a single disc, feels long and unmemorable. But the strong cast makes a fine team.” BBC MUSIC MAGAZINE
