Produktbeskrivelse

ÅSMUND FEIDJE'S HALLAYÖ TO BE RELEASED DIGITALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME

A long-awaited digital release of a hidden gem in Norwegian contemporary music

Originally released in 1997 as a limited physical edition, Åsmund Feidje’s unique and genre-defying album Hallayö, music written for the ballet by  Jorma Uotinen for the Finnish National Ballet, will finally be made available on all major digital streaming platforms now. This long- overdue release offers a new generation of listeners the chance to discover one of Norwegian contemporary music’s most distinctive and atmospheric works.

Composed and performed by Feidje—widely known for his work in theatre music, composition, and sound design—Hallayö blurs the lines between composed music and improvisation, between acoustic textures and electronic elements. The album features a rich tapestry of sounds, built around Feidje’s expressive use of voice and electronics, and a chamber ensemble consisting of Stephan Baratt Due (violin), Soon Mi Chung, viola, Aage Kvalbein, cello, Bjørn Ianke (bass) and Kjell Samkopf (percussion), woven together in a deeply personal musical language.

Hallayö was a very intuitive project,” says Feidje. “It emerged from a period of experimentation and reflection. I wanted to capture both the rawness of traditional sounds and the dreamlike world of sonic exploration.”

Though originally a quiet release with a cult following, Hallayö has grown in reputation over the years for its originality and haunting beauty. The 2025 digital release marks not only a reintroduction of a remarkable album but also a celebration of an artist who continues to shape Norway’s musical landscape in subtle and powerful ways.
