A FAMILY TRIBUTE

Edvard Fliflet Bræin: Chamber Works is a richly curated recording that brings to light the rarely heard chamber music of one of Norway’s most versatile 20th-century composers. Best known for his orchestral works and opera Anne PedersdotterEdvard Fliflet Bræin (1924–1976) reveals a different, more intimate musical voice in this collection of chamber pieces, interpreted by a remarkable ensemble of Norwegian performers.

The release is a family tribute as well as a musical rediscovery. Among the featured performers is Bræin’s grandchild – soprano Ditte Marie Bræin and his son clarinetist Hans Christian Bræin – whose personal connection to the composer adds a deep emotional resonance to the performances. They are joined by the renowned Ssens Trio and pianist Ole Christian Haagenrud, forming a stellar lineup that bridges generations of Norwegian musicianship.

The album includes a wide-ranging selection of Bræin’s chamber works, from lyrical art songs and evocative instrumental miniatures to robust, expressive quartet writing. These works showcase Bræin’s melodic gift, his folk-influenced tonal language, and his elegant balance between structure and spontaneity.
